However, the action is mostly centered between Maura Franklin (Emily Beechum,) an Englishwoman coping with a checkered past looking for her missing brother, and the ship’s German captain Eyk Larsen (Andreas Pietschmann,) who has his own tragic backstory. There’s a Cantonese geisha (Isabella Wei,) a Portuguese priest (José Pimentão,) a young French couple (Jonas Bloquet and Mathilde Ollivier,) a Polish boy working in the engine room (Maciej Musial,) and a Danish family in steerage (Alexandre Willaume, Maria Erwolter, Lucas Lynggaard Tønnesen, Clara Rosager.) The case is large and mostly pan-European. Like most good mystery box shows, 1899 is an ensemble piece. And without that, all the flaws of this subgenre become glaringly evident. Now, Odar and Friese are back with 1899, a far more ambitious and blatant “mystery box.” But while all the fundamentals are there, the lightning in a bottle that made Dark so captivating isn’t present (at least not yet). It was a major success for Netflix and resulted in three seasons, each more complicated than the last and all culminating in a satisfying ending. Dark followed the population of a small German town as the mystery of a missing child unspools into a multi-generational time-travel conspiracy. As the streaming giant looked to expand its catalog and reach a global audience, it took a gamble on a trippy German show from Baran Bo Odar and Jantje Friese. Then, five years ago, the mystery-box collided with another trend at Netflix: international entertainment. Ever since Lost proved that audiences would put up with a nonsensical plot if it meant they could help solve a puzzle, TV execs have chased that success with an endless parade of mystery-box shows - with mixed results. When does a show become more mystery than actual story?Īfter a strong start, Westworld suffered this fate until HBO finally put the series out of its misery, but the “mystery-box” genre isn’t slowing down any time soon. With this headset, simplicity is the word of the game. The box is a 3.4-inch flat black plastic container with huge Volume Up, Volume Down, and Mic Mute controls on the top of this best wireless PS4 headsets under 100. It’s a fabric-covered cable with a USB connector on one end and an audio control box on the other, and it’s significantly longer (five feet). That’s when the USB cable, the other half of the Kraken Tournament Edition, comes in handy. Built-In QualityĪ three-foot connection is adequate for consoles with built-in headphone jacks, like the PlayStation 4 and Xbox One S, and the Nintendo Switch in portable mode (which also includes a headset connector), but it’s too short for PC gaming. The headband is malleable and movable with sturdy click-stops, and the metal rings allow for narrower rotating for each earcup for a snug fit. The earcups have massive, circular plastic casings that surround solid metal and connect to the metal headband. It’s a well-made pair of over-ear headphones that come in black or green with black trimmings. In a lot of cases, gaming headphones come down to features more than anything and some do make a massive difference. The Kraken Tournament best cheap PS4 headsets maintains Razer’s hefty, round gaming headset design. This alone can easily be worth $100 but it depends on the person. Going back to my LucidSound example, the LS41 might not sound terribly different but it adds a separate volume control for voices and is wireless. Surprisingly, the best pair I've used for this is a non-gaming Meze 99 Classics but a lot of times it depends on what you're looking for and using. The Astro A50s are not the best sounding headset but they're the easiest to use and come with some of the most features. The LS10 can compete with the LS25 and even that can be in the same ballpark as the LS41, despite there being a $100~ difference in price. I have like 40 pairs of gaming headphones across a good number of brands and sometimes the difference is features, other times sound and in some cases is experience. Only reason I typed all this out is because for awhile I thought more expensive meant better. Please note that this subreddit is not affiliated with Sony or any of its subsidiaries. In terms of specs the company thought it wise to not list any power draw or overall dimensions for the RTX 4080, and we assume it’s delisted in anticipation for the release of Founders Edition cards. No pricing or availability is listed as of yet. It looks rather rugged, don’t you think?Īnother noteworthy mention is that this reveal is the first confirmation that GeForce RTX 4080 will make use of two different Ada Lovelace GPUs, designated as AD103 and AD104, for the 16GB and 12GB versions, respectively.Īnd that’s it from Galax. Neat.Ĭompleting the cooler designs is Galax’s Metal Master series, featuring an all-aluminium die-cast top cover that wraps around the card, with geometric patterns lasered into the metal, embodying the overall no-nonsense design. Finally, the backplate features black text and logos on an all-white background with a large cut-out at the end to allow for heat dissipation, which is a signature design that carries over from RTX 30 Series cards.įor those who love anime and aren’t bothered with customising their card, Galax also features the same cooler design in a retro-wave colour palette, complete with three separate ‘waifus’ inspired by all things anime displayed on its backplate. Completing the look, the 102mm triple fans are also RGB illuminated and consist of 11-blade transparent blades. Moving on to the side, there’s an RGB-illuminated Boomstar logo atop a multi-layered refraction mirror design. The cooling system features a rather large and robust nickel-plated heatsink with seven heatpipes jutting out the edge, hence the graphics card is accompanied with a matching anti-sag bracket, though we cannot confirm if this is included or sold separately. It features a crystal shell with a pure white background that, Galax says, is a clear canvas for those who wish to add their own personal touch that’s easy to spray, disassemble and assemble. Kicking off the various designs is the Xingyao/Boomstar series, for those with a penchant for creativity and all things RGB. Heading to the fore, Galax has unveiled a few unique designs. Nvidia’s next-generation GeForce RTX 40 Series cards have finally been revealed, and even though the GPU-maker decided on a “if it ain’t broke, don’t fix it” design philosophy, it’s finally time for AIB partners to flex their creative muscles. Weapons and Ammo do not carry over to this level, meaning the only new item a player will have after each Episode is a Rune. The entrances to completed Episodes will be sealed off and will not available for playing until a New Game is started. The player will return to this room to select another episode after they beat an Episode. Overall this level does not have a specific Level Theme, as many different textures are used in an attempt to show the capabilities of the engine, which means that this level has parts of all themes which is stored in a separate. Finally, a hidden final passage leads deep below the hub, into Shub-Niggurath's Pit where the game's final battle takes place. An eerie room, an example of Elder World architecture holds the slipgate to The Elder World. A bizarre walkway over Lava, bearing the distinguishable characteristics of the Runic style, leads towards The Netherworld. A dark and sinister Wizard-themed hallway leads into The Realm of Black Magic. The entrance to the Shareware episode, Dimension of the Doomed, is a simple idBase-themed room. The Episode entrances are designed to reflect the nature of the dimension they lead into. The Easy selection is a clean and simple hallway, the Normal selection is a more menacing metallic bridge over muddy water, and the Hard selection is a broken bridge over a pool of Lava. In this hub, the player selects a difficulty and level by going through corridors to the area they wish. It's an experimental concept which allows the player to select the Episode and Difficulty through in-game navigation, rather than the traditional splash screen. This level is a hub level, made only to link to other levels. Introduction is the starting area of Quake. i also feel like 90% of the employees at my store who work in makeup are competent in color matching. as much as we are certainly trained to help you find everything you’re looking for and be experts, we are also encouraged to try to keep things sweet and simple (so we can move on to the next person).Īs someone who works in makeup quite often, i do feel my color matching skills are strong. what it does mean, though, is that likely, as we’re helping you, we probably have 4 more people waiting for another one. that being said, it’s easy to get tired of them, and by no means does that mean that someone should take it out on you. I’m speaking for myself and myself only, but as an employee who works at a fairly high volume store color matches come a dime a dozen and it is the most common request we get from clients. Sometimes a brand just won’t have a perfect match, their undertones might skew towards warm yellow or cool pink, or they’ll have your shade but not the right undertone, so just keep on keeping on until you find it! I’ve found that Fenty, Smashbox, Pat McGrath, and believe it or not the Sephora Collection lines all have a wide variety of undertones. There will be a lot of trial and error until you get it right, but once you do, you can spot the right shade a mile away (or sometimes you’ll need to buy two shades and mix). Also please note that the lighting in sephora is horrible, get to a window or go outside and check, but also account for possible oxidation changing the color. Anyway, I think that for most people, it’s easier to match yourself with trial and error than to have a Sephora employee match you. I even had an associate that didn’t know color theory. I’m pale olive, and I’ve had people match me to peachy, yellow, super white, and pinky shades. She was super punky with bright fuschia manic-panic hair and I just did not want to ask her, but i was so wrong- she found a Make Up For Ever concealer that was a dead on match (sadly discontinued). I’ve had so many people color match me over the years at Sephora, and only one person got it right. How accurate is the machine they use to color match? I’ve never been offered that. She goes wow you used to be dark and hands me Y315 (cool tone) which was darker and gives me a swatch and then had nothing else to say. I told her I was matched with Y245 before (warm undertone). I recently got color matched with a MUFE foundation stick. Before the sale I bought a Giorgio Armani one that was too pink and a shade too dark. I never questioned it until recently shopping in store during the sale and overheard newbies being trained on “what to say” about a product as if it’s a generalized sell pitch. Tracing back to every time I have asked to get color matched, I noticed some of the employees were either in a rush and swatched something quickly or just incompetent and did a random swatch. I always noticed how pink I looked in my car after I do a full face of makeup. Can I trust any employee at Sephora to do a color match for me? I have bought numerous foundations and was convinced to this day that I was “warm” tone. |
